Next up on the E3 preview list is Bethesda and you can watch the Bethesda E3 2019 show on Monday June 10 from 10:30am AEST. E3 2018 had some great name-drops and juicy information from Bethesda. We’ve already seen Fallout 76, Elder Scrolls Blades, RAGE 2, Elder Scrolls Legends, DLC for Elder Scrolls Online, Quake Champions and Prey: Mooncrash. What we haven’t seen yet are the following titles:
- Wolfenstein: Youngblood (set to release July 26 – team up with a friend or play alone with an AI companion in the first co-op Wolfenstein adventure)
- Doom Eternal (a sequel to 2016’s Doom)
- Starfield (Bethesda’s first original IP in over 25 years)
- Elder Scrolls VI (Todd Howard described The Elder Scrolls VI as the game they’re building towards after Starfield, making it almost definitely a next-gen title.)
Given the release date is not far away for Wolfenstein: Youngblood, they could give us some more gameplay footage, but I think one of the big reveals will be a release date and more gameplay for Doom Eternal. Doom 2016 was great fun and still holds up today, so Doom Eternal will definitely be stepping it up a few notches. If you haven’t done so already, watch the gameplay reveal from QuakeCon 2018 below. Executive Producer at id Software, Marty Stratton, said, “Doomguy is the strongest, most powerful hero we’ve ever created.” After watching the gameplay below, I can certainly see why.
As for Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI, Todd Howard has previously stated that we should not expect anything on them. Whether they may throw us another teaser or not is up in the air. However without those two, that essentially leaves room for updates on current projects or some unannounced new games.
As we are now into the Aussie winter (US summer), we should expect to see more information about the mysterious Vaults 94 and 96 opening, though these are said to be high-level raid vaults. I logged into Fallout 76 tonight and there were 19 other players in my world ranging from level 17 to 163 (I’m level 28). I’m hopeful there’ll be an influx of players that want to try this new content, I just hope there’s enough of them. What I am really interested in seeing more information is from their Wastelanders update coming in the Aussie Spring which introduces new factions. I think if there were NPC factions that we could do quests for, that would go a long way in appeasing much of the angst players have with the game.
We’ve just seen the release of Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr. You can read my review here and see why it’s chock full of dragon-slaying goodness in a new land and with a new class. Dragons now roam the new zone map, replacing dolmens in the core game and abyssal geysers added to Summerset. The Necromancer is the sixth class, only the second to be added with the Warden from the Morrowind DLC. Zenimax have been consistent in delivering a major content update every quarter. Whilst ESO: Elsweyr is still very fresh, it wouldn’t surprise me if they announce the next six months of content next week. At the very least there may be teasers with more information to come at QuakeCon 2019 at the end of July.
RAGE 2 is a heck of alot of fun, and the community events have been cool to get involved with allowing you to unlock new skins for weapons. Bethesda have been great at listening to feedback from players as well, allowing camps to be reset after clearing them on your first play with more difficult goons to kill. There are world events that we haven’t seen yet, and two expansions on the list taking us through to Spring, so we will likely see some teasers or previews of this upcoming content. It’d be great to have either a continuation of where the story ended, or at least some new branching story arcs to keep our interest.
As for any possible new games that could be announced? There could be news of entries to the Prey, Evil Within and Dishonored series’, and I’m sure there could be more additions to the Switch library of games from Bethesda. You can watch Bethesda at E3 on Monday June 10 from 10:30am AEST via Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, Mixer and Facebook Live. We have less than a week to wait, so get excited people!
