Last month we told you about a new cosplay and gaming convention coming to Australia in July this year. Cospendium 2020 is an all-ages family project that aspires to become the best cosplay and esports convention in Australia. Running for an entire weekend at the Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton Gardens, Melbourne, Cospendium will launch on Saturday July 4, 2020 and the second big guest announcement for the event is none other than Australia’s own Mel Gibson.
This is Gibson’s very first pop-culture convention appearance in all his years of starring in and making movies. Mel Gibson’s incredible body of work has spanned over 40 years and includes over 50 movies. These include his role as Max Rockatansky in the Mad Max trilogy, Martin Riggs in the four-movie Lethal Weapon franchise, William Wallace in Braveheart, as well as classics such as What Women Want and Bird on a Wire. As a director, he earned his stripes directing The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge (winner of two Academy Awards). Fans will have the opportunity to hear him speak on his storied career, meet him and take photos.
Mel Gibson joins Star Trek’s William Shatner at this convention and there there’ll be more huge announcements in the next few weeks with even more Hollywood stars on their way. Plus, there’ll also be a massive Viking-themed banquet to commemorate the closing of the debut convention.
“I look forward to meeting all my fans in Melbourne and sharing all the thrilling, funny and sometimes very weird stories from my life and career. I’ll see you all at Cospendium soon.” Says Mel Gibson.
“It’s an enormous honour to have Mel Gibson, one of Australia’s favourite sons, as a special guest at our first-ever Cospendium,” says Cospendium founder Philip Rainford. “It’s even better that it’s Mel’s first ever convention too! I can already see the Mad Max and Braveheart fans in their cosplay outfits.”
