ARE you a streamer, podcaster or audio content creator? Then this one is for you! As a content creator myself I understand the important role technology plays in our creative journeys, so naturally when Røde X (a subdivision of Røde) released their latest collection of microphones, I was very intrigued.
The Røde X XCM-50 and XDM-100 are both created to give users an optimised audio experience for streaming and gaming. Both microphones are extremely easy to use, simply plug in and you’re ready to go. They also come with the Røde Unify software integration (the software is free if you purchase one of the new Røde X mics) and is a complete audio solution for both gaming and streaming. Once you get the hang of it, the ability to adjust different audio sources like game, chat, music, system, and browser audio with ease is definitely a bonus to the range.
The XCM-50 is definitely the more budget-friendly model of the Røde X debut units, perfect for any newbie content creator. Thanks to being a condenser mic, the sound is warm and the unit is compact but sturdy.
The only downsides I found was that the shape of the tripod when full extended is quite large and the grate is extremely fine and may catch a lot of dust. However, I can imagine this microphone being taken travelling as it combines both quality and function into one great unit.

The XDM-100 is a professional dynamic USB microphone that delivers rich audio. From the first time I took it out of it’s box I knew this was a very premium, very good USB microphone. I would recommend attaching the studio shock mount to a boom/studio arm like the Røde PSA1+ to isolate itself from external vibrations, it also looks very professional.
Again you will need a USB-C port in your computer or an adapter/extension of some kind. This dynamic microphone allows for ultra-low background noise and the pop shield included reduces any harsh ‘p’ or ‘b’ syllables. My sound quality was exceptionally clear compared to my previous microphone and was positively commented on by my gaming teammates.

Overall, I was surprised at the upgrade from my previous microphone to both of the Røde X microphones and truly believe that both microphones would be excellent additions to any creators setup. Personally, I really love the XDM-100 and it has significantly upgraded my streaming and podcasting setup, the sound quality is exceptional in both filming and streaming.
