Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout stumbles into Beta

AS much as I love a good, long narrative adventure, there are times I just want to do something short, fun, and that doesn’t take itself seriously – and this latest announcement fits the bill perfectly

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knock Out, developed by Media Tronic and being published by Devolver Digital, is now in Beta.

Best described as a massively multiplayer-player online obstacle course taking inspiration from things like It’s a Knockout, Top Town and Total Wipeout, you play a waddling customisable character known as a Fall Guy, and your object is to beat everyone else to the crown and win.

If a colourful strange obstacle course sounds like your cup of tea, you’ll want to try Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.

The game’s fact sheet sums it up pretty nicely, in fact:

“Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout flings hordes of contestants together online in a mad dash through round after round of escalating chaos until one victor remains!

“Battle bizarre obstacles, shove through unruly competitors, and overcome the unbending laws of physics to avoid both humiliation and elimination.

“Leave your dignity at the door and prepare for hilarious failure in your quest for the crown!”

The team at Devolver let me play an early version of the game at E3 last year and it was a lot of colourful, silly fun which I greatly enjoyed, so the news it’s now in beta was very welcome.

Having played the early version of the game at E3 last year, I can confirm it’s silly and colourful fun.

    Per the announcement:

“Competitiors are asked to stumble over to fallguys.com to sign up and get pumped with a brand new gameplay trailer that flouts social distancing orders to reach out of your screen and hug your eyeballs.

“The public beta will be the first opportunity for clumsy contenders around the world to challenge family, friends, and beloved pets for the coveted Fall Guys crown ahead of launch, flinging hordes of contestants together online in a mad dash through round after round of escalating chaos until one victor remains!

“Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout beta participants will hone their tottering technique across a range of randomised rounds of up to 60 players, including Door Dash, Tip Toe, Hex-A-Gone, Tail Tag, Hit Parade, Egg Hunt and Fall Mountain in anticipation of the game’s release for PC and PlayStation 4 in Summer (June-August in our part of the world) 2020.

    • Massive Online Pandemonium: Dive into a series of ridiculous challenges and wild obstacle courses with masses of other competitors online, all with the hopes of making the cut and advancing to the next round of mayhem.

    • Competitive & Cooperative: Shift between competitive free-for-alls and cooperative challenges where the losing team all get eliminated!

    • Comically Physical: Watch in delight as your fellow competitors bend, bounce, and bash their way to hilarious, physics-based failure!

    • Delightfully Customisable: Fail in style with everything from fashionable pineapple couture to the latest in bunny hats available to customise your look in Fall Guys.
