WITH Halloween in a little over a month, Wizards of the Coast announced last week the first of two new spooky Magic: The Gathering sets to launch for both tabletop and MTG: Arena. Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is a werewolf inspired horror set that introduces new spooky themed cards and brings back an old favourite from sets past.
The story behind this set is once again set in the town of Innistrad, where it’s the eve of the Harvesttide Festival. As the festival looms closer, so do the terrors of the night. And it’s up to Planeswalker Arlinn Kord to protect the townsfolk. Innistrad: Midnight Hunt introduces a plethora of new card, new spooky designs and brings back the Flashback mechanic.
Flashback is the perfect mechanic to make a comeback in this spooky set as it’s MTG’s well known graveyard mechanic. For those who don’t know how it works, Flashback allows players to cast spells from cards in the graveyard. This was introduced in the original Innistrad MTG deck.
Midnight Hunt also comes with 19 new double-faced werewolf cards that use Daybound and Nightbound cards for each sides abilities. Both sides are also accompanied with gothic inspired design. Eternal Night Legends, new Land card variants and folk horror inspired Equinox cards have also been introduced in this set.
Innistrad: Midnight Hunt sets are now available in MTG: Arena and physical tabletop sets will launch on September 24.
