Fixture S1 Mount and Carry Case for Switch Review

Chris InglisBy Chris InglisJune 16, 2021

I don’t play my Nintendo Switch as much as I should, for a couple of reasons. I just got a PS5 and I primarily game on PC and Xbox Series X. I really only use the Nintendo Switch when I go away on holidays. We haven’t been able to go away for a long while due to Covid and lack of expendable money. When I did get to take it away and use it, the pro controller I got for my birthday last year is just that extra thing that doesn’t fit into my current Switch carry case, and is a pain to remember to bring along so it gets left behind. Now, the Fixture S1 device and carry case from Fixture Gaming will enable me to play the Switch more often with the pro controller.

Released in September 2020, the Fixture S1 can be used to connect the Nintendo Switch to the Pro Controller for portable play. It is designed to be exceptionally ergonomic by allowing you to alter the angle of the Switch console directly over your hands. In addition, on June 10 they released a superb carrying case which keeps the Switch, Fixture S1, Pro Controller, and games safe from monster encounters and other everyday hazards.

I would often get sore hands after using the joycons after 30 minutes or so, which is why I got the Pro Controller. Clipping the Fixture S1 to the controller is easy and snaps into place quite rigidly. It has a gap at the top so you can charge and play with the USB cable which is great. Given how tight it snaps onto the controller though, you need to make sure you line it up in the centre before snapping it on. That is of course if you’re a little OCD like me. You then slide the Switch console into the support bracket with the edges where the joycons would go.

The Fixture S1 mount has a two-axis design that enables you to position the Switch console at the optimum viewing angle for how you’re sitting, standing, lying or walking whilst playing. The combined weight of the Fixture S1, Switch and controller comes to 650 grams, so you do feel the weight of it which may narrow down your decision of gaming position. This may also limit how long the kids can hold it for. What’s cool also is that there is a rubber base to the S1 so that you can place it on a desk and angle the Switch in a much better position to your body position.

The Fixture S1 carry case houses the controller with the Fixture S1 attached, you just need to collapse it down to the lowest point. It doesn’t press on the controller buttons and fits snuggly in the case. There is a soft sleeve attached to the top half of the case to store your game cartidges, and protects the Switch screen when it’s closed. In the top of the case is a zipped pocket which I store my AirFly Pro, Audiofly AFT2 Wireless Headphones and USB charging cable. It’s all there in one compact and sturdy carry case, and now all I need to remember to pack for holidays is the charging station. Otherwise, this is the perfect travel companion if you have access to USB power. It’s not overly expensive either with the Fixture S1 at $59.97 plus shipping costs, the carry case is $45.16 plus delivery, and as a bundled package together comes to $83.51 plus shipping, both from Amazon.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the quality and sturdiness of the Fixture S1 device for playing the Switch in a comfortable gaming position. Even in an exciting action-filled game, the rigidity of the Fixture S1 stayed in place. I’ve been testing it our for the last week and it hasn’t shown signs of wearing down and becoming loose. Time will tell if it can keep up the solid positioning. The carry case is ideal for me given I have the AirFly and Audiofly devices which give me wireless earbuds so I don’t disturb my wife when late night gaming. We don’t use the Switch enough these days, but now I’ve got the pro controller and switch in one compact bundle, I’ll be playing more often, especially given the exciting announcements at the recent Nintendo Direct as part of E3 2021.

This review utilised a review unit and carry case provided by Novy PR. The Fixture S1 can be purchased from Amazon through the below links.
