Publisher Team17 and Spanish Indie developer The Game Kitchen recently revealed that their 2019 2D action-platformer hit Blasphemous will not only receive a free content update titled Wounds of Eventide later this year, but also a sequel that is in development and scheduled for release in 2023.
The announcement confirmed that Wounds of Eventide would serve as the final installment of content for the original game, providing players with a conclusion to The Penitent One’s first journey, alongside the game’s true ending. The Wounds of Eventide content brings with it new bosses, areas and items.
The epic animated trailer for Wounds of Eventide shows The Penitent One engaging in combat with a variety of foes, with the trailer revealing that players will get access to the content for free on December 9. The end of the trailer also announces the sequel by simply displaying “II” alongside the release year of 2023.
Even though I’ve yet to sink my teeth into Blasphemous (blasphemy I know!), its violent pixel art aesthetic and 2D action-platformer metroidvania gameplay has seen it sitting in my backlog for years now as a game I’d love to play through. Given the announcement of free DLC and a sequel, I’ve just installed the game on Steam and am about to finally dive in.
The free DLC for Blasphemous titled Wounds of Eventide will release on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC on December 9.
