THE only thing better than a good video game is a good, free video game.
World of Tanks publisher Wargaming are giving strategy fans something to keep themselves occupied in isolation – they are giving away a copy of Master of Orion: Conquer The Stars to anyone who completes a battle mission in World of Tanks between April 9 and 23.
Wargaming bought the rights to the 4-X classic in 2013 and released Conquer The Stars in 2016 – imagine Civilisation but on galactic scale and you’ve got some idea what it’s like.
World of Tanks publishing director Max Chuvalov said the company was excited to give commanders a chance to use their tactical skillsets in a new atmosphere, and for free.
“For both old players and new, the Master of Orion universe is a boundless and exciting strategy game that will give adventurers the chance to explore the final frontier from their front room,” he said.
According to Wargaming, within the downloadable single player package, players will have the chance to experiment with over 75 researchable technologies, explore giant galaxies with up to 100 solar systems, modify spaceships to achieve victory – with access to the original game, the Revenge of Antares DLC, The Terran Khanate alien race and Retro Fleets from the collector’s edition.
To claim their copy of Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars¸ players need to complete a simple battle mission in World of Tanks Random Battles (including Grand Battles) between April 9 and April 23, using any tier.
Once these are complete, players will be able to download Master of Orion, with all races and single player mode unlocked, via the Wargaming.net Game Centre. They will also receive unique Master of Orion customizations for their World of Tanks vehicles as a reward, too.
Wargaming’s announcement said “Diehard fans of the initial titles will be relieved to know that this revival was built under the watchful eyes of the original development team – and has retained its unique interstellar warfare and beautiful exploration.
“Players are invited to experience a fully orchestrated score as they confront hostile civilizations, negotiate with mysterious aliens, share knowledge with allies and uncover this artfully imagined universe.”
I reviewed Conquer The Stars when it came out and can confirm it is a solid and enjoyable game which captures the spirit of the original very well and is well worth playing – so if you don’t already have a copy, this is the perfect chance to remedy that.
