Gaming Sites… Lift Your Bloody Game!

We made note of it last week in Episode 39 of the Game On Australia podcast, but today was honestly the last straw, and it’s time to VENT.

What the actual is going on with gaming sites? Honestly?

In case you missed it, I went on a semi-rampage last week at Gamespot. I’m sick of going there and seeing links to movie news and the like.

You’re a gaming site… give me all I need to know about games.

Last weekend, I almost bought The Golf Club 2. I was in EB Games, looking at that $69.95 morsel and going through the whole “do I, don’t I” routine.

Now: I know 99% of you are reading this and thinking “GOLF GAME? WTF do you want to buy a golf game?”

But: It’s always been a thing with me. I’ve played the actual game for years, one of my greatest memories as a kid is playing Leaderboard and then World Class Leaderboard on the Commodore 64, so I have a rich history on the game.

After googling and more googling, the first place I found a review was at Forbes Magazine.

    F*CKING FORBES MAGAZINE?

A whole week after the game was released, there is still no review on Gamespot?

    So sorry Gamespot… I’m done!

Pete mentioned in the podcast that he’s done with IGN. I went there today and guess what I saw in the home page?

    MORE F*CKING MOVIE NEWS!!!

    Enough is enough.

I thought I’d give newcomer Press Start a go, but lo and behold, the home page feed is chock full on content about Crash Bandicoot, and that’s about it.

    So, I’m out of ideas.

Pete mentioned that Kotaku is a pretty good site. I had a bit of a look just now and maybe, just maybe, that’s the answer?

Finally, friends of the show will probably know that I’m a big fan of co-op games. Even my go-to co-op gaming website, Cooptimus, has gone to sh*t of late?

There’s always the option that Pete and I turn Game On Australia into a gaming review site… but we need to get free games first for that to happen…

    (HINT HINT)

The one site that doesn’t let me down, even after all these years, is The Escapist’s Zero Punctuation, by Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw. That guy is a legend… it’s just a pity we only get one vid per week.
