Every single part of me wants the forthcoming AFL Evolution game to be a massive success.
Us Aussies get a raw deal when it comes to sports games. The four biggest games in this country, AFL, Rugby League, Cricket and Netball ain’t exactly followed massively worldwide.
Cricket, maybe? Rugby League, perhaps? But the lack of games featuring any of these sports is a true indicator of their popularity with gamers.
Or maybe, just maybe, no-one’s nailed a game yet to create a benchmark. I remember when FIFA and Pro Evo both came out. Both had enough promise to create the benchmark for years to come (FIFA obviously more successfully).
So, having been disappointed before by an AFL game (AFL ’98), I’m ready to dip my toe again. I’m genuinely excited about the new AFL game, but I need to temper that, as expectation can lead to disappointment.
The graphics and collision control looks just okay to me, but if it plays well, who bloody cares… Not me!
