Hitman 2 developer IO Interactive have announced Ghost Mode, a brand new competitive multiplayer mode included in the upcoming game.
Ghost Mode is bringing 1v1 multiplayer to the traditionally-singleplayer Hitman series. The mode (which will initially only be available for the game’s first level) will task each player with assassinating more targets than the other, with each kill earning points.
The title ‘Ghost Mode’ is indicative of the mechanics at work, as each player only appears as a ‘ghost’ in the other’s game.
As explained in IO Interactive’s announcement post, “The unique twist with Ghost Mode is that each player is in their own ‘reality’, where your actions only affect your reality – but you’ll always be able to see a ‘Ghost’ version of your opponent. You’ll see exactly what they’re doing, what they’re wearing and any items they’re holding. One key strategic element in Ghost Mode is the use of Ghost Items, as these are the only way to impact your opponents reality. For example, throwing a Ghost Coin will attract attention in your reality, but will also do so in your opponents reality.”
Hitman 2 is IO Interactive’s follow-up to the episodic Hitman game from 2016, however the upcoming title is not episodic. The two mark a new take on the longrunning Hitman franchise, in which players execute covert assassinations around the world as Agent 47.
Hitman 2 will release on November 13 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
