Sony were initially planning to release Gran Turismo 7, God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West in 2021, however it now seems that not one of them will be releasing on time. Gran Turismo 7 and God of War: Ragnarok have already been officially shifted to 2022, and according to a Bloomberg report, Horizon Forbidden West may also be delayed into year.
The news of a potential delay for Horizon Forbidden West began this week when GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb stated on his Giant Bomb show GrubbSnax that he thinks PlayStation will look to announce a delay into 2022 via a State of Play broadcast in September. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier followed up Grubb’s statement, saying that “a person familiar with the matter” had confirmed with him a delay into Q1 of 2022.
While a delay always felt like a possibility given the less than concrete release date of “Holiday 2021” and PlayStation Studio Boss Herman Hulst not inspiring much confidence that the game would be ready when discussing the game in June via the PlayStation Blog, it is ultimately unfortunate. Seeing the highly anticipated holiday trio of PlayStation releases all pushed into 2022 leaves a gap that is impossible to fill, but given the success and scarcity of PS5 at the moment, I’m sure most people are happy to wait until next year.
Although the delay has yet to be confirmed by PlayStation directly, it seems like we may have to wait a little bit longer to reunite with Aloy.
