As you may (or indeed, may not) have heard in our latest Podcast, Episode 60, I saw something yesterday at my kids school that was truly awesome… and it was all created by a gaming console.
To set the scene, my oldest and youngest tore off to the general assembly area as I got to their class with bags in hand. There were kids streaming in from all over the place.
Probably around 90 to 100 kids. Amazing!
So, I ventured over there to find all the kids, of all ages, dancing in unison to a game being played on the big screen… the game? Why Just Dance, of course.
Okay, so it’s not a game in the way that most of us in this beautiful little Game On community would probably play, but the facts about this little event are undeniable:
- Almost a hundred kids were having an awesome time
- Almost a hundred kids were doing some serious exercise
- Almost a hundred kids were gelling over a shared experience
I brought it up in the Podcast because how many times have we heard in the past about the negative effects of video gaming? It shits me no end, the bad wrap that gaming can get from ignorant, close-minded people who don’t really get what gaming brings to the table.
I really wish I could have filmed it. It was that good.
I’m really glad our school has embraced this sort of stuff… there’s no doubt parents at our school – at any school – that would immediately complain at the thought of their kids being exposed to video gaming… but when you see what I saw, there’s no doubt about it… GAMING ROCKS!
