It was revealed today on the Playstation Australia facebook page that a brand new Limited Edition PS4-Pro is on its way to celebrate the milestone of 500 million Playstation consoles having been sold.
We actually saw the initial announcement for this earlier in the week, however we were a little disheartened to read that the 50,000 units being made would only be available in the US and Canada.
Since then we’ve received the following info via email from Sony:
“Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced that it will introduce a specially designed PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro) “PlayStation 4 Pro 500 Million Limited Edition” (HDD 2TB) from August 24, 2018, and will be available at a manufacturer’s recommended retail price of $699.95 AUD in Australia. With PlayStation (PS) hardware sell through surpassing 525.3 Million units worldwide, the Limited Edition PS4 Pro is a thank you to all the fans who have supported and enjoyed entertainment on the platform. Only 50,000 limited edition PS4 Pro consoles will be available globally and for the first time comes in a dark blue translucent design on PlayStation 4 (PS4).”
Mashable, back in 2014 reported that it was the “fastest selling console in Australian history.“
This release looks incredible, each console features its own build number, and throws back to the retro nostalgia of the 90’s. It will be come boxed with a translucent controller (which will also retail separately for $99.95) and camera. And a gold commemorative PS4 headset will also retail separately for $129.95.
No word yet as to which retailers will stock them.
