KINGDOM Hearts IV was announced today during the 20th anniversary celebrations for the Kingdom Hearts franchise.
Disney and SquareEnix shared a video trailer for the game during the anniversary event, as well as a press release with all the details.
Kingdom Hearts IV is currently in early development along side a new mobile game for the series, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link.
Sora will be returning in Kingdom Hearts IV along side his usual squad – Donald Duck, and Goofy.
The announcement also revealed a new character, Streelitzia, and a sprawling new city, Quadratum, to explore.
Nana Gadd (Director, Walt Disney Games) shared, “Sora is an original Disney video game hero like no other, beloved by our team, and fans across the world. We’ve been honored to work with Tetsuya Nomura and his team for two decades to introduce these original stories of discovery, courage, and friendship.”
Kingdom Hearts Brand Manager Ichiro Hazama was thrilled to share the news of the new titles. “We’d like to thank the fans for all of their support over the years, and we can’t wait for them to experience all that’s to come for Sora.”
Since the launch of Kingdom Hearts III in 2019, fans have been waiting for news of a new title in the series. Many fans have been enjoying playing Sora in Super Smash Bros Ultimate while waiting the news of the next addition to the franchise.
At this stage there is no official news of a release date. The official press release mentions “KINGDOM HEARTS IV, the next mainline entry in the series, is currently in development for console devices”, so we hope no exclusive deals will impact this title getting in to the hands of as many Kingdom Hearts fans as possible.
The 20th anniversary celebration also included the release of new merchandise through the Square Enix online store. Rings, keychains, pins, action figures, plates, and plushies are now available for pre-order.
