Lawn Mowing Simulator turns the mundane everyday task of mowing lawns into a relaxing, zen-like experience that I can play for hours.
Lawn Mowing Simulator is a simulator and business management game developed by Skyhook Games and published by Curve Digital. It released on August 10, 2021 on Steam and Xbox Series X/S and is set in a beautiful British countryside town. I don’t mind simulation games myself, but my brother-in-law Justin absolutely loves them, so I’ve enlisted him to review this amazing looking chill game.
You start out by yourself and get to choose between two mowers that perform different functions. Each has their benefits and negatives over the other and all mowers are modelled from real world licensed mower manufacturers. There are 12 mowers available in the base game from the likes of Toro, Scag and Stiga. You can set your blade height, fuel up and measure your engine load as you complete a variety of contracts across Career Mode, Free Mode or Challenge Mode.
Before we can get started with all the lawn mowing goodness though, we need to run a sweep of the yard looking for items laying around. We can pick them up with the mower if we choose but this causes damage to the blades, engine, and other parts. There is a bonus for picking up the items too, so it is in your best interest to collect them before proceeding. It did not take long before wanting to get upgraded mowers.
Once I did there was a new dimension added to Lawn Mowing Simulator, attachments. Yes, that’s right. Amazing attachments like stripe rollers, mulching kits, grass collectors, recyclers, flail decks and more. These allow you to take on different types of jobs for greater pay and more challenging tasks which are indicated by a star system. The greater the challenge the more the stars. Once you build up some funds you can upgrade your headquarters allowing for more mowers, you can hire employees, purchase advertising, and balance the books.
For staff, you can choose from different applicants from rookies through to experts. The price varies depending on their skill so be careful you do not extend yourself too far. If you do find yourself in the red, there is also the function to take out loans. Bear in mind you may not need a loan at the first mower upgrade point. You can do a trade swap once you have some funds to get a quick upgrade without having to fork out all the cash at once, but this is completely up to you. Some people do not like to wait for their new toys – this guy is one of those people.
I find the game extremely relaxing. There is just something about driving around in circles with a slight engine noise and some chill tunes. I just need a good drink and I’m happy. If you get to the end of a mowing job and you’ve missed some tiny specs of lawn here and there, it doesn’t matter too much early on as you only get docked a few dollars which is nothing compared to the time spent trying to find exactly which tuft of grass you missed on the 19th turn.
Skyhook Games have just released the first patch for Lawn Mowing Simulator and made a very nice change. The inversion of X and Y to be individual settings for each task. This means walking has its own settings, riding on the mower has its own etc. Before this there was just one setting but when riding the mower, I found it to be in reverse of what I wanted so this was a very welcome update.
