I’m a major Star Wars nut, so I go a little crazy each year on this day as we play on words and celebrate May the 4th (be with you) as Star Wars Day. To help celebrate these occasions, games like Starwars Battlefront 2, Star Wars The Old Republic and emulated versions of Star Wars Galaxies hold in-game events and offer in-game items for players on this special day. This year is extra special as we pay our respects to actor Peter Mayhew who played everyone’s favourite walking carpet, Chewbacca, as he sadly passed away on April 30, 2019.
The SWG Legends emulated server for 2003’s Star Wars Galaxies has erected a beautiful shrine to remember Peter Mayhew. It’s located near the first place we met him in the Star Wars universe, outside the Mos Eisley cantina. The shrine features a statue of Yoda, a kneeling Han Solo and a blue ghost of Chewbacca. It was great to see so many players in that spot kneeling, bowing and saluting the great man and the character.
I jumped into 2011’s Star Wars The Old Republic and managed to find Chewbacca having a chat to broken droid in Nem’ro’s Palace cantina on the planet Hutta.
If you login to SWTOR before May 6, you will receive your very own M4-Y8 Astromech Droid which will be delivered to you via in-game mail on May 10. There are also special sales happening on the Cartel Market!
- 50% off all collection unlocks
- 50% off all Appearance Options and Appearance Designer changes
- 40% off all available Stronghold Decorations
- 35% off all available Mounts
In 2017’s Star Wars Battlefront 2, there was a community event that required collectively 4 million command posts to be captured in Capital Supremacy mode. This has since been achieved so everyone that logs into the game up before May 6 will receive a new Princess Leia skin.
The legend Adam “Bruce L33t” Lamotte has also found us some great gaming deals on Star Wars day for you to check out.
Finally, I was browsing Steam the other day and noticed they have added 2004’s original Star Wars Battlefront to the Steam catalogue for the first time. Steam usually discounts the entire Star Wars collection around May the 4th so if you haven’t picked up one or a few of the titles, now’s your chance!
May the 4th be with you, always!
