THE city of Melbourne may currently be in lockdown but it’s not stopping them from celebrating bloody gaming. Melbourne International Games Week 2021 has recently been announced by Creative Victoria, celebrating all facets of gaming, tech and everything in-between. This will be MIGW’s 7th year and will kick off on October 2 through until October 10. PAX Aus Online is also one 30+ events hosted by the International Melbourn Games Week and takes place digitally from October 8-10.
“This is set to be another fantastic Melbourne International Games Week, showcasing local games talent and programs for the whole family to enjoy,” said Minister of Creative Industries, Danny Pearson.
The plethora of events being held during Melbourne International Games Week is a large spread of both digital and in person activities, shows and panels. The public will have access to a range of event for the whole family, including pets. An Augmented Reality mystery called Eastern Market Murder will be held on Day 1 where participants explore Melbourne and collect evidence by using AR technology. Dogs are also encouraged to come along and join in on the adventure on foot.
Educational activities for young gamers have also been included such as Project Re-Play, an online E-Waste workshop where you can learn how to make your own handheld game device. There’s also GCAP for up and coming/student developers where experts in the field give advice on developing games and running studios.
The highlight though will be the epic Mario Kart Tournaments held at Fed Square Atrium on the Big Screen.
There’s also a line-up of exclusive events for industry folk with a couple of award shows thrown in too. The Australian Game Developer Awards will be held digitally on October 6, celebrating the achievements made by Aussie game devs. The Melbourne Queer Games Festival and Awards is also being held on the same day showcasing the queer games scene.
