Ubisoft has announced the 2022 Rainbow Six Invitational will be hosted in Montreal, Canada. The Invitational will take place 8-22 February 2022.
The event features the best teams from around the globe, with 20 teams and four regions represented.
Teams earn their place at the Rainbow Six Invitational by earning points at regional league and Six Majors events. Points earned over 2021 add to the official Global Standings. Due to their performance over 2021, 16 teams have already qualified for the event. The Asia-Pacific (APAC) region has three teams who have already qualified for the event; Elevate, DWG KIA, and Sandbox Gaming.
One additional slot at the Rainbow Six Invitational is available per region. These slots are up for grabs at official qualifier events for each region. The APAC South Open Qualifier is being hosted by ESL, and registration is now open until 3 December. The team that takes out the APAC South Open Qualifier, will join the winner of the APAC North Open Qualifier and the two top-ranked APAC teams who did not already have a slot at the Rainbow Six Invitational, for an Offline Closed Qualifier.
The Offline Closed Qualifier will be held on 8-9 January, 2022, as a LAN event. No on-site audience will be at the closed qualifier, but it will be broadcast on Twitch on the official Rainbow Six channel.
The Rainbow Six Invitational, hosted in Montreal, will also be an offline LAN event with no on site-audience. The Rainbow Six global team shared why the decision was made to manage the event without an audience:
“More than just a tournament, the Six Invitational is this special moment of the year when the entire Siege family comes together to celebrate a new year in Rainbow Six Siege. With such a symbolic event, taking the decision not to host a live audience has been a difficult one.”
“The health and safety of all participants is our main priority, and we look at every event based on empirical data, a global risk evaluation and ongoing assessment of the pandemic’s trajectory. We are continuously monitoring the situation and will re-evaluate the option of a limited on-site audience in January 2022, should the local requirements and restrictions allow it. While we can’t wait to welcome fans back in our esports events, we are dedicated to making the Six Invitational 2022 a true moment of celebration for the community at large, and are working on new ideas that we look forward to sharing with you soon.”
