MOBILE gaming tends to drain smartphone batteries pretty quickly, and one of the best places to charge said phone when you’re out of the house is while you’re driving in a car.
Car chargers have been a very long time and there’s not much to say about them, but with the advent of wireless charging (such as Qi or Apple MagSafe), we’re starting to see chargers that use the magnetic elements of these systems.
The Mophie Snap+ Wireless Charging Vent Mount does exactly what you’d expect it to – it clips onto the air vents in your car, and then the magnetic aspect of the charger holds and iPhone 12 onto the disc and charges it.
For Android phones or phones with cases, there’s an included adhesive magnetic ring with the charger that sticks onto the case and allows the magnetic disc to hold the phone while it charges.
The disc connects to a USB-C capable car charger (included), which also works when plugged into a wall charger too – meaning you can take it out of the car and use it in your house, which does help soften the impact of the AUD$90 price a bit.
I tested the device with an iPhone 12 and it worked absolutely as you’d think – the unmodified phone stayed attached to the magnetic disc using the standard magsafe connection built into the phone, and didn’t come off while driving around, even when crossing over speed bumps and driveway entrances. It worked quite happily in both portrait and landscape modes, too.
The magnetic ring to stick on the back of other phones worked very well too, holding them on firmly – again, in both portrait or landscape modes
That’s pretty much all there is to say about the Mophie Snap+ wireless charging vent mount – it does what it says, it works well, and it charges at a respectable 15w, so could prove a useful accessory for your car to ensure you don’t run out of phone battery while driving to or from somewhere you’re likely to be gaming.
