AROUND the same time every year, a plethora of information is constantly landing in our inbox about the latest NBA 2K. And with only one week until NBA 2K22, this year is no exception. 2K gave us the low down just a couple of days ago about new gameplay features to come and now they’re giving us the scoop about MyTEAM.
This year, MyTEAM are offering brand new game modes, exciting features and more chances to win big in the Unlimited Tournament. But more about that later. Like the gameplay reveal, there are pages of in depth information via the Courtside Report which you can find here. This article will more or less be the highlights for what’s to come.
Firstly, MyTEAM is getting a new multiplayer mode called Draft. This is kind of like Fantasy Football but it’s NBA. Starting off with 7 packs, you choose 13 players as well as a coach. From here the rules get pretty details so I’ll leave the Courtside Report to teach you the ins and outs of what packs are important and what they do.
What I can tell you all about though is how your Drafts will pan out and the possible prizes to come. Your Draft comes to an end once you gain 10 wins. It also comes to an end after 3 losses. Win or lose, every single Draft is rewarding. You’ll receive a League Pack with every draft as well as a pick on a Draft-exclusive Ascension. Ascensions will also be rewarded with every win and at the end of the season will be a Grand Prize. So far we know that a Pink Diamond Glenn Robinson is the top prize for Season 1.
The multiplayer action doesn’t stop there as Triple Threat Online also has a new mode. It’s called The 100. At first, this sort of sounded like a different take on a Battle Royale. But it’s totally different ball game to that. The rules are simple, you start with 100 points. However that number will either slowly or quickly decrease, depending on how many points your opponent scores. Even if you win a game and your opponent score was 6, you lose 6 points. The key to The 100 isn’t about scoring points, it’s all about your defence. Once you reach 0 points, you’re taken straight back down to the bottom tier of prizes.
Expect to see new exclusive and shiny cards this year. Event Cards will become available only during the start of each Season. The first event has been revealed already which begins on launch day. Fifteen cards have been made to form a mural to commemorate Luka Dončić’s NBA 2K22 cover. Collect all 15 to gain a Diamond Luka Dončić.
Holographic Cards are the new rarity for NBA 2K and won’t be hard to find either. If a card can be auctioned and is available from the Pack Market, it might be a Holo. There are no attribute or badge differences, however they might come in handy with certain Agenda or Lineup rules.
And now for the first time ever, you can get your cards graded. I don’t entirely understand how it works, all I know is that graded cards gain bonus MTP after every game. Like Holographic cards, only Auctionable cards can be graded.
Shoes are no longer one size fits most with the ability to now craft Shoe Cards. Pick your Boost Cards and Colourways, which all now come in every badge tier, to create your own unique Shoe. There’s a bonus waiting for those who completed the NBA 2K22 Cover Athlete Challenge in NBA 2K21 too. Three Diamond “Grinch” Kobe VI’s as well as 15 Shoe Boost Cards will be rewarded to those who completed said challenge.
Those lucky enough to be verified by NBA 2K can show off with their own logo. You’ll be able to pick a fake celebrity, musician, streamer or NBA player from a mile away now. The real deals will have their own logo next to their name so you know you’re actually playing with the big names themselves.
Lastly in this wrap is in regards to MyTEAM Unlimited Tournaments. There’s not one, but two lots of $250,000 up for grabs. One for Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and the other for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. And doubling your chances is a lot easier than you think. You’ll only need to qualify on one platform generation to be eligible for both Tournaments.
Keep an eye out for more NBA 2K22 news as it comes.
