In the month of August across Australia we celebrate National Dog Appreciation day and the RSPCA cup cake day raising funds for our beloved 4-legged friends.
But what about mans best friends and companions that fill that role in our digital lives? We reached out to the Game On Aus – God Mode community to get your ideal list of the best in game companions and pets throughout the gaming world.
1 – Dog meat
Winning hearts across the Fallout franchise, Dogmeat, in his various incarnations, sees one kick ass companion capable of helping in battle, carrying all the heavy things and just being a good doggo all round.
2 – Pikachu
The one that can-not be contained, the original Pokemon from many childhoods. Pikachu is a favourite for late 90’s nostalgia following you around and jumping into battle whenever needed.
For those around and lucky enough to score one of the limited edition Pokemon colour Gameboys you might remember Pikachu looking more like this.
3 – Elizabeth
Joining Booker Dewitt after being rescued, Elizabeth soon becomes a handy and an amazingly well written companion through-out the third instalment of the Bioshock series.
4 – Yoshi
Beloved by generations and carrying Mario along his many adventures, Yoshi is a staple to Mario fans and takes a well earned place in the best companion list.
5 – Gus Special mention for that one horse that after 20 years is still following our God Mode Member Grant around in his Ultima Online game. Loyalty through decades earns this little pixelated pony a place in our top 5.
And what is a ‘Best of list’ without a shout out to the worst companion around.
Lydia – Skyrim
Coming with promises of love and assistance in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Lydia spends more time than any other setting off traps, attracting attention and just being a pain in the ass in general. Assuring you she is here to carry your burdens she will happily load up with your heaviest valuables and proceed to immediately run off and start a fight she can’t finish and die before you can save her. On behalf of us all Lydia, you can eat it.
