PERSONA 5 Royal – a game that is part of the much-loved series of turn-based JRPGs, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona. The Persona games have predominantly made their debuts on the PlayStation consoles in its beginnings in 1996. But gradually over time, the games get their releases on PC. Persona 5 Royal; an expansion on the original Persona 5 came to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, S & Xbox One, Nintendo Switch & PC as part of its Definitive Edition on October 21, 2022. Developed by Atlus & P Studios and Published by Atlus and Sega.
With this release of Persona 5 Royal, you get the upgraded graphics and they aren’t a letdown. The graphics are crisper than the original releases, on PlayStation 4 and unlike the original releases where you had to spend another AUD$50+ for additional costumes & music, the Definitive Edition includes all that.
I played the PC release of the game and that means I got to experience playing with a Keyboard and Mouse. Personally, I’m not a fan. It makes you realise how much we get so used to the analog sticks on controllers in environments that are rather static and pre-rendered. So after an hour or so of running around the first dungeon in the game, I got a bit fed up and changed over to my PC controller. This definitely remains a console game at heart.
The PC port of the game is potato PC friendly which is a bonus, as I decided to try it out on my laptop whose capabilities is limited to your usual basic documents, photos etc to watching shows. The game detected this and put the graphics to low. So though at the expense of smooth crisp visuals, the game’s performance doesn’t suffer from stutters.
Persona 5 Royal is an excellent game but is it ultimately worth paying AUD$100 if you already have it on PlayStation 4? Sadly, no. The game is still great but unless you are a collector of games on all platforms, just stick to the PlayStation 4 version.
