AFTER spending years providing PlayStation platforms with quality titles such as Super Stardust HD, Dead Nation, and most recently Returnal, Finnish developer Housemarque has become the latest member to join the PlayStation Studios family.
Announced in a PlayStation Blog post by Head of PlayStation Studios Herman Hulst, the acquisition was said to be one that “enhances the creative force of PlayStation Studios” as the recent critical success of Returnal “proves the studio is one with incredible vision, capable of creating memorable new games that resonate with our community”
Housemarque joining the PlayStation Studios banner of developers is hardly surprising given their strong partnership over the last few console generations, but its undoubtedly fantastic news.
It also seems that they aren’t the only developer joining PlayStation Studios, with PlayStation Japan seemingly leaking that Bluepoint Games may also be joining in on the fun. In a now deleted post via the PlayStation Japan twitter referencing the Housemarque reveal, the image in the post instead highlighted Bluepoint Games. The image which features various PlayStation Studios IPs includes a photo of Returnal which can also be seen in the Housemarque reveal image, but also includes an image of Demons’ Souls beside it.
Like Housemarque, the acquisition of Bluepoint Games is a no-brainer that most could see coming, however it appears that PlayStation Japan may have accidentally jumped the gun on a reveal that they may wanted to have hold on to for just a little longer. If for some reason it isn’t true, I hope PlayStation pick them up, as their work is truly impressive. For now though, we’ll just have to wait and see.
