Colony simulation game Reshaping Mars has landed on Steam Early Access as of August 26, 2021 by solo developer Tholus Studio and published by Yooreka Studio. You may recognise Yooreka Studio from publising games such as Streets of Rage 4 and Neon Abyss in the Greater China Region. In Reshaping Mars, players start from scratch to build and maintain a massive civilisation on a completely uninhabited planet, Mars. You will start by gathering resources, storing food, accepting immigrants, and building a better colony together.
Revealed early this year at E3 2021, Reshaping Mars has players managing everything from hydroponic farms to vetting batches of immigrants, but it’s presented in a manageable way that almost anyone can pick up a play. Adding to the realism, Reshaping Mars’ landscapes are made from real life Martian geological features and situated in their correct approximate locations.
“Yooreka Studio is continuing its emergence in 2021 with another excellent game that shows how diverse our lineup is,” said Head of Publishing at Yooreka Studio, ElevenXiao. “Reshaping Mars is a true deep dive into the colony simulator genre and will give players a practically endlessly complex experience.”
Reshaping Mars features fleshed out tech trees and environmental effects such as low air pressure, strong ambient radiation and sandstorms that can affect a colony. Keeping the population happy is paramount and must be done through building leisure facilities, proper housing and establishing solid welfare policies. There are also a slew of random events to encounter and unravel, alongside a robust real-time strategy element that factors during combat scenarios, and multi-factional diplomacy that allows for strong alliance building, fair trade policies, and the ability to start an all-out war.
The current early access build of the game has complete colonisation/modification of Mars content, a complete gameplay cycle system, and a certain number of game plots and missions, and will be in early access for 6-12 months. I’ll be taking a look at Reshaping Mars over the next week, so keep an eye out for my first impressions.
