Another Retro Rocks Review for you beautiful people and this one’s timely, as it celebrates the greatest game ever to glorify the Winter Olympics.
Granted… we think it’s the ONLY game to glorify the games, but there you go.
Two words… Winter Games.
Back in the ’80s, the Commodore 64 was everything, and there was a developer/publisher called EPYX who made a fantastic range of “Games”, er, games.
Summer Games, Summer Games II, World Games, California Games, you get the drill.
Anyway, another one was Winter Games and is essentially the Winter Olympics. And it was awesome.
As you’ll see from the video above, it featured 8 or so events from the games, of which you could play independently or as the underdog Australia for the full suite.
All were great… the Biathalon got a bit tiresome, but that’s the sport right? I personally never really enjoyed Figure Skating either, but that’s the same for me in real life.
In any case, it was a ripper and every subsequent Winter Olympics, I always take a little look back to my 11 year old self and think about all those hours I pumped into a game about a series of sports I had no idea about.
Good times!
The good news is that we believe Winter Games will be an inclusion on the forthcoming C64 mini, so everyone will be able to experience the 8-bit magic from the ’80s.
