Overnight we were graced with another bodacious and whacky way out there trailer for Shadow Warrior 3, as well as a release date of March 1, 2022. Developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Devolver Digital, Shadow Warrior 3 sees the return of Lo Wang in a seamless blend of fast-paced gunplay, razor-sharp melee combat, and a spectacular free-running movement system.
The first Shadow Warrior game, by 3D Realms and GT Interactive, released back in 1997. It was rebooted by Flying Wild Hog and Devolver Digital in 2013 and then Shadow Warrior 2 released in 2016. The second game featured cooperative play for the first time as well as procedural generation of large and open levels. Shadow Warrior 3 plans to up the mayhem to 11 in all aspects as the trailer showcases amazingly detailed graphics for both players and monsters, lots of bloody combat with both melee and ranged weapons, as well as wall-running and other high speed movements.
Fallen corporate shogun Lo Wang and his former employer turned nemesis turned sidekick Orochi Zilla embark on an improbable mission to recapture an ancient dragon they unwillingly unleashed from its eternal prison. Armed with a punishing mix of blades and bullets, Lo Wang must traverse uncharted parts of the world to track down the dark beast and push the apocalypse back yet again. All it will take is the mask of a dead god, a dragon’s egg, a touch of magic, and enough firepower to hold off the impending cataclysm.
Along with the release date announcement, Flying Wild Hog also announced new voice actors for the main characters in the game. Actors Mike Moh, Andromeda Dunker, and SungWon Cho have joined the cast as the new voices of Lo Wang, Motoko and Zilla, alongside the returning Alex Dobrenko as Hoji.
I’ll definitely be playing through Shadow Warrior 2 again in preparation as we wait for the March 1 release date (March 2 for us in ANZ). Shadow Warrior 3 can be pre-ordered on Steam, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Pre-orders include the exclusive Koromodako Katana – a weapon so great they gave it eight legs. Console owners will also receive Flying Wild Hog’s 2013 Shadow Warrior and Shadow Warrior 2 with the purchase.
