UP until today, it has been 3850 days – or 10 years, six months and 15 days – since the last mainline Silent Hill game hit Australian shelves. And while we may need to still wait a bit longer, Konami today provided an overload of Silent Hill games, movies and merchandise information confirming one certain thing.
Silent Hill is back!
The Silent Hill Transmission that Konami presented on YouTube at 8 am AEDT this morning was something I’ve been excited about since the Twitter post made on the official Silent Hill Twitter page three days ago. There was no information, it was just a teaser with a link to the Konami website simply labelled, Silent Hill Transmission.
As I sat up this morning in my excitement, obviously there have been rumours going around the internet over the past year or so about a Silent Hill revival and what that may entail, but we here at GOA don’t deal in rumours and whispers, we want to bring the facts and WOW, Konami delivered that in spades.
Silent Hill 2
First up was the announcement of the remake of the legendary Silent Hill 2 coming to us from the Bloober Team which will be a PlayStation 5 & PC exclusive for 12 months before potentially heading elsewhere. If your think the Bloober Team sounds familiar, they are responsible for the Layers of Fear franchise, Blair Witch and most recently The Medium. Along with all these titles they were attached by rumours to this Silent Hill 2 remake over the last year.
The game is looking to have a total overhaul of graphics, voiceovers and soundtrack, but don’t stress about the soundtrack as the game’s original composer will make a return after 21 years after the original was released.
Silent Hill: Townfall
A teaser trailer that lasted around a minute showed off the newest entry into the Silent Hill franchise simply named Townfall. Not much was shown in regards to characters or new enemies in this trailer, it did however show what appeared to be a beach with the tide slowly creeping in with radio transmission.
It was teased by the creators to look over the trailer for hidden hints. The creators of this title were announced as No Code and Annapurna. Let us know over on our socials if you find anything – GameOnAus
Return to Silent Hill
Described by the presenters as the Catalyst for all the new Silent Hill games, Return to Silent Hill is the forthcoming movie to be directed by Christophe Gans who directed the original and clearly the best of the Silent Hill movies as we don’t like to talk about the second movie Revelation. This movie as described by the director is going to closely follow the plot of Silent Hill 2.
No casting announcements yet as the movie is still in its early storyboard stages of production.
Silent Hill Merchandise
Next up was a showing of all the latest Silent Hill statues inspired by Silent Hill 2. These range from James Sunderland, Pyramid Thing and Maria. These will all be provided by Sweetfactory. The statues shown off looked to be amazing in quality and a great addition to any fan.
No prices are made available as of yet, but the pre-orders start as of November 1st. So make sure to bookmark the site and put it in your calendar.
Silent Hill: Ascension
In an ambitious creation set to be bought to us by Genvid, Bad Robot (JJ Abrams), and Behaviour Interactive, not much I really understood about this other then what was explained about the game being an interactive, live service game where players can effect the world of Silent Hill. More news to come on this.
Silent Hill F
As if three new titles in the Silent Hill universe weren’t enough, a FOURTH!
Silent Hill F is one of the franchise’s biggest changes in scenery as it take place in Japan with an emphasis on flowers as it seems to be taking over and covering the character in these beautiful flowers and taking over wherever this game is set.
That was it. This transmission that Konami set up was more then I had ever expected. It seems that they are putting all their eggs into a basket for the foreseeable future of the Silent Hill franchise. No doubt this is a knee jerk reaction that they have actually carefully planned since the cancellation of the Kojima/Del Toro collaboration of Silent Hills was cancelled back in 2015.
I’m excited about what’s coming next for the Silent Hill franchise and am glad that it seems Konami has carefully planned and now executing its plans for one of, if not the, best horror franchises in the world.
