GAMING headsets can be very expensive, but they don’t have to be and there is a growing market of very affordable headsets which still deliver good sound quality and stylish looks too.
Gaming brand Stealth (not to be confused with the Turtle Beach headphone line) have recently brought their stylish Classic Gold Abstract edition headset to the market.
As the name suggests, the first thing about the unit you’ll notice is the artistic design it features – a nice touch which livens up the unit’s aesthetic quite noticeably.
Priced from around $45-$69 depending who you buy from them, the unit is very lightweight – it feels flimsy, but stood up well to rigorous use including the indelicate use by two primary school aged children without any problems at all.
The headset itself has 40mm drivers in the headphones, and connects to devices via a 3.5mm jack – which means it will work with your PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, tablet device and mobile phone quite happily.
It’s comfortable to wear for a gaming session and didn’t have any problems when I started moving around on the couch or anything like that either.
The sound quality is very good too – it worked well whether I was playing Uncharted on the PlayStation 4, Red Dead Redemption II on the Xbox One or watching Netflix on my phone; it was clear and generally perfectly acceptable. There is a volume control and mic mute wheel/control on the headset’s cable, too.
The mic is detachable, which I’m not a huge fan of – I prefer flip to mute, especially since with kids in the house a detachable mic is one more thing to get lost – but it seems to work well enough and can be adjusted.
One thing I really liked was the packaging was totally plastic-free and appropriately minimalist – it was all recycled (or recyclable) cardboard, which not only kept the mess to a minimum, it could all go in the recycling bin too.
If you’re looking for an affordable headset that will look stylish and be functional without blowing the budget, the Stealth Classic Gold Abstract edition is worth looking into.
