I’m a massive space flight-sim fan, harking back to the glory days of Wing Commander: Privateer, Star Wars games such as X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Boy did my Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick cop a flogging back in the day! Space flight-sims sadly dropped off the radar around the 00’s and games that did feature space combat were majority controlled by the mouse, or they were pretty much on-rails shooters. We’ve had games that included space combat add-ons including the Jump to Lightspeed expansion for Star Wars: Galaxies in 2004. Star Wars: The Old Republic boasted space combat, but that was completely on rails (though still cool for the first few times you do each mission). Star Citizen’s kickstarter wow’ed the hell out of millions of players in 2012 but it’s 2019 and we’re still waiting to see a full release. Elite Dangerous blew alot of people’s minds in 2014, though I’m still stuck figuring out how not to bash every wall within the hangar when I try to land. We then had EVERSPACE arrive in 2017 which is a cool take on fast-paced combat with roguelike elements.
I’m sure there have been plenty other space flight sims over the years, but none have really scratched that itch. That was until I recently saw the announcement trailer for a game called Subdivision Infinity DX developed by Mistfly Games and published by Aussie legends Blowfish Studios. Subdivision Infinity DX features arcade style gameplay, fast-paced space-based dogfights in over 40 engaging missions and dynamic boss battles in five amazingly detailed areas of space. Whilst not a full space flight sim, this space arcade shooter still looks to be a heck of a lot of fun and action!
One of the coolest aspects of space flight sims is the ability to customise your ship and I’m glad to see this is a key feature of Subdivision. You will be huntind down enemy spacecraft, crushing capital ships, mining asteroids for rare minerals, bounty hunting and even finding blueprints to craft your own ships!
Main features of Subdivision Infinity DX as per the official website are as follows:
- Complete exciting missions in the main storyline and explore mysterious sectors of the galaxy.
- Tight space combat gameplay – fight massive space battles against different enemies: drones, fighters, dreadnoughts capital ship and more.
- Explore stunning locations, each with a different feel and atmosphere.
- Find lost relics to build new ships, harvest asteroids and sell their minerals for profit, or use them for crafting.
- Prepare for the fight – enhance your ship and equip with diverse selection of weapons available for upgrade.
I can’t wait to get stuck into this game and the good thing is we don’t have long to wait! Announced on Twitter recently, Subdivision Infinity DX will release August 8th on PlayStation, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. There will also be a Steam version of the game which will be published separately by Crescent Moon Games. Check out the awesome announcement trailer below to get pumped!
