EVER wanted to race a tank? Then keep reading, because Wargaming have some news for you.
WORLD of Tanks has been Wargaming’s flagship title since 2010, with the free-to-play game putting gamers in control of one of a large range of tanks and armoured fighting vehicles from across history, with several nations including the British Commonwealth, the USA, Russia, China, France and Germany represented.
To celebrate the game’s ninth anniversary, Wargaming are running a two-month long Tank Festival from August 6 to October 7.
As part of this festival there will be several in-game events, including two more seasons of Frontline, an all-new mode called Steel Hunter and, yes, the return of the ever-popular Tank Races, which will return for a fortnight in late September.
Throughout the festival, players will be able to complete tasks, earn Tickets and get plenty of goodies. Also, everyone will be able to create their own special Dog Tag, which will be seen by enemies after being destroyed, and collect many unique customization elements for it. Once the collection has been completed, players will be able to use their Tickets in the Festival Shop, which offers valuable rewards previously only available during special events.
Wargaming publishing director Maxim Chuvalov said the team had been hard at work on Tank Festival and its events for a long time.
“We’re really excited to be bringing back Tank Races, a mode that the community has been asking for, and introducing something completely different in Steel Hunter,” he said.
“Plus, with the sheer amount of rewards on offer, we’re sure our players are going to love Tank Festival!”
The first part of Tank Festival will be focus on Czech vehicles, with a series of chained missions which Wargaming say will be accomplishable for both veterans and newcomers alike. These will run from August 9 to 19, and some of the rewards available will include Czech tech tree (try saying that several times quickly!) blueprints, as well as ‘a unique 3D style for the first ever Tier VIII Premium Czechoslovakian tank, the Skoda T-27’.
Episodes seven and eight of the Frontline season will also take place place during Tank Festival.
“For a week apiece, players can experience the 30v30 battles they love in their favorite Tier VIII machines. Taking place on 9 square kilometers, commanders are tasked with fighting off enemy attacks or breaking through enemy defenses, depending on their assignment,” according to the announcement from Wargaming.
The company has also said the focal point of Episode Eight will be the addition of a new map which is set in the suburbs of a post-WWII Central European city, and is filled with “open terrain, small towns, ruins and many more points of interest.
“Also with Episode 8, the most skilled and persistent players can finally add the unique AE Phase I, a Tier IX American heavy tank with four tracks, to their tank collection,” the announcement said.
Later this month, Wargaming have said “Players will find themselves in a mysterious Zone, which will host the most extraordinary battles ever experienced…. The outcome will all be down to players’ actions as they explore the Zone, research different vehicles, play hard and fight even harder! No battle will be the same.”
More information on Tank Festival is expected in due course, but it certainly looks like it’ll be a lot of fun.
