MOTHER’S Day is rapidly sneaking up on us – it’s on Sunday, May 8 if you forgot – but there’s still time to get mum (or the mum in your life) a thoughtful gaming related gift.
This year we’ve gone with a peripherals and accessories theme, and have hand-picked a selection of everything from power banks to console controllers and more to help give mum an improved gaming experience – no matter what platform she prefers!
Here’s our gift guide suggestions for Mother’s Day 2022:
There’s no such thing as too much spare battery capacity when you’re out and about, and the Belkin Powerbank 10K offers 10,000mAh of charge in it s
The device can charge via one USB-C or two USB-A ports; if you charge via the USB-C port alone you get 15W output, if you use one USB-A output it’s 12W and if you use both USB-A ports it shares 12W between them; plugging in all three ports shares 15W of power.
Perfect for keeping a smartphone tablet, or Nintendo Switch topped up, the Powerbank 10K can provide up to an additional 36 hours of video playback and may be just the thing for Mum to keep in her handbag for when the dreaded low battery warning comes up on her device(s).
There’s a pretty good chance Mum really wants some peace and quiet – and what better way to give her that than a set of noise-cancelling earbuds?
The Bose QuietComfort Earbuds can offer exactly that – stylish, high-quality peace and quiet (via the noise cancelling) and excellent sound quality no matter whether they’re playing music, audio from videos, or sound from games.
They’re not cheap, but between the sound quality, IPX4 rating, wireless charging, and stylish looks, there’s a lot of appeal here.
Whether Mum is a streamer looking for something to add to her on-camera style, or just likes cute but functional things for gaming, the Razer Kraken Kitty headset has her covered.
Available in black or quartz (pink), the headset runs via USB connection and comes with customisable RGB lighting, which can be configured to react to stream events (or just look cool generally)
It’s certainly visually distinctive, and is backed up with decent sound and a noise-cancelling microphone too.
Combining the features and precision of the full-sized SteelSeries Prime e-sports mouse into a smaller, wireless package, the Prime Mini may be just the thing for a mum who wants a new mouse with for gaming, but would like something with a bit less desk occupancy than a traditional gaming mouse.
The Prime Mini offers a versatile, portable, wireless option for gamers wanting a competition-level mouse, has customisable buttons, DPI and RGB settings, and can also be used as a wired mouse via the included USB cable too.
It’s a well-built peripheral and for anyone with smaller hands, well worth considering.
Logitech made very good keyboards and mice, and the Logitech G915 Wireless Keyboard is an excellent example of a quality gaming peripheral which the enthusiast gaming mum will very much appreciate.
Packed with features, including a wireless and Bluetooth connection option, RGB lighting, and low-profile keys, it can even be connected to two different devices (say, a PC and a laptop) for easy switching between the two.
It’s not cheap, but a good gaming keyboard make a big difference to the experience and may be just what mum needs to boost up her gaming.
Everyone knows you can never have too many console controllers – whether it’s for hot swapping when a battery goes flat, because one’s fallen down the side of couch and you can’t reach it, or because you’ve got friends over and want to do some couch co-op
The PlayStation 5 DualSense controller is no exception to this, and if your mum is a PlayStation fan then she is likely to very much appreciate an additional controller – especially if it makes it easier for you to game together!
As a bonus, the controllers are currently available in four colours – white, black, red, and blue, so you can pick one in a colour mum likes best too.
RRP: AUD$109.95 (White/black), AUD$119 (red), AUD$129 (blue)
If your mum has an Xbox (or a PC, for that matter), then an additional controller is still very much an option – in this case, with the Xbox Wireless Controller.
The controllers will work with the Xbox Series X and Series S, as well as the Xbox One X and One S too, so even if mum has an older console she can still make use of these; they can also be plugged into a PC via USB too.
The controllers is available in black, white, red, blue, or “volt” (green) – so if nothing else, there’ll be no doubt over which controller belongs to mum.
RRP: AUD$89.95 (Black/White), AUD$94.95 (Blue/Red/Volt)
We’ve saved the best for last here, because this product is truly something interesting. It is a pair of sports sunglasses with built-in earphones, allowing the wearer to have sunglasses on and still enjoy music or sound – yet still be aware of their surroundings, and also not disturb others at the same time.
The sound quality in the Bose Tempo Frames is amazing; they are comfortable to wear and are a good pair of sunglasses too – and yes, it is entirely possible to play games on smartphones and tablets with these; they work surprisingly well for that too.
If mum spends a lot of time outdoors, and likes to have a smartphone with her while she’s doing it, you can’t go wrong getting her a pair of these.
