UBISOFT have announced their post-apocalyptic series Tom Clancy’s The Division is coming to mobile devices next year.
Entitled Tom Clancy’s The Division: Resurgence, the official announcement describes the game as a “canon opus featuring a new storyline, different classes and challenging enemy factions” – which, for those of you whose Latin is a bit rusty, means it’s an official entry in The Division series and will be considered a canonical part of the IP’s universe.
The Android and iOS game will be set in “a contemporary post-crisis New York City” and offer a different perspective on the key story events of The Division and The Division 2; from the sounds of it the basic premise (players are Strategic Homeland Division agents protecting civilians from hostile groups etc) is pretty much the same as the other games.
Ubisoft have said the game will feature a new storyline set in a large open world, and will be playable solo or co-op. It has also been confirmed there will be PvE activities including story missions and world activities; the official release notes “This new chapter builds on all original game modes while bringing new gear and weapons to try out” and adds players can look forward to discovering new characters with deep backstories and powerful enemies with challenging abilities.
Character and gear customisation also features, and there will be new specialisations and unique signature weapons available too; Ubisoft have also confirmed the whole experience is being developed with mobile device control/experience in mind.
Given the popularity of The Division a mobile game certainly makes sense for Ubisoft and the announce trailer’s graphics (apparently rendered using the game engine) look impressive too.
More details on the game, including some gameplay first looks, are expected soon. I’m certainly keen to find out more as well as see how The Division experience translates to mobile – the official website should be live by the time you read this at thedivisionresurgence.com
