The hunt for Australia’s Catan champion is on! The popular boardgame is searching for an Australian representative to the Catan World Championship in Malta in November.
Seeking State Champions
State Championships have already kicked off with heats at South Australia’s The Lost Dice. Heats are on Wednesday and Thursday nights until the 28th May before finals on the 4th June.
Queensland’s Geebung RSL, New South Wales’ Behold Games, and Victoria’s Fortress Melbourne will also hold their own State Championships. Winners receive $1,000 towards travel expenses and free entry to the Australian Catan National Championship in Canberra. They also win a seat at the National Top 16.
Winning a State Championship guarantees players a spot in the Australian Catan National Championship on August 6, but it isn’t the only way to enter. Players can register for the competition at the Eastlake Football Club in Canberra. The top 12 players will join the State Champions in the National Top 16. The winner will be crowned Australia’s Catan Champion and receive a trip to Malta for the 2022 World Championships. They will join more than 60 participants from around 40 countries.
A Long Time Between Drinks
It’s been a long four years since the last Catan World Championship. The biennial event was due to take place in November 2020 but health concerns due to COVID-19 forced its postponement. Normally a maximum of two players per country can participate in the tournament, but countries that have been able to hold national competitions since the rescheduling of the World Championship will be able to send additional players.
Who will be Australia’s Catan Champion and represent the country at the Catan World Championship in Malta? Check out the action at Eastlake Football Club in Canberra on August 6th to find out!
