Okami and Wildcard Gaming faced off at the November Six Major Oceania Championship Finals on the 28th of November, 2020. What started as an exciting series of matches ended in a decisive match win for Wildcard Gaming – securing their place as the November Six Major Oceania Champions.
The championship final was a best of five series. Okami took the first match, on the Oregon map, in a close scoring result of 7-5. The second match went the way of Wildcard Gaming, 7-5 on Kafe. In the third match, the teams went into overtime, with Wildcard Gaming securing momentum with the match win, 8-6 on Coastline. The fourth match was won dominantly by Wildcard Gaming, on the Consulate map, 7-1.
I had the opportunity to interview Vincent “Vincere” Daniele, the newest member of Wildcard Gaming, last month. Vincere joined the team as a replacement for arguably one of the best players in Oceanic region. The performance of Wildcard Gaming in the November Six Major Oceania Championship was in no small part due to Vincere’s ability to adapt to the new team.
Vincere mentioned that while transitioning to a new team will always have its challenges, he was welcomed by the Wildcard Gaming Rainbow Six Siege team.
“The team made it easy for me. We know each other from playing in the same region,” shared Vincere. He continued, “It’s a pleasure to play with them. The international experience Diesel and EmoRin have brings a different feeling and approach to competitive play.”
Vincere also mentioned that the team was keeping busy, organising scrims with international teams to remain ready for the Oceanic competition.
Tien “EmoRin” Lam from Wildcard Gaming earned MVP of the night at the 2020 November Six Major Oceania Championship Finals.
With this win, Wildcard Gaming earned enough points to secure their position at the Six International – the world championships for Rainbow Six Siege. The Six International will take place in Europe next year as a LAN event. In consideration of concerns around COVID-19, the Six International will take place in a quarantine “bubble”, similar to what was managed for the League of Legends World Championships.
The 2020 November Six Major Oceania Championship Finals was an exciting series to watch, taking place over five hours. The back and forth action was compelling, and analysis from the commentary team was appreciated during the crucial moments of play. Congratulations to Wildcard Gaming earning their position at the Six International, to represent the Oceanic region on the worldwide stage next year.
