OVERNIGHT there was an email sent out to Xbox Live Ultimate members advising that they would no longer be receiving Xbox 360 games as of October 1st 2022.
A staple of the Xbox games with gold over the past few years has always been that members would receive two new current gen console games and two Xbox 360 titles for free each month. With this month’s Portal 2 being the only Xbox 360 game on the list, indeed it looks to be the last.
The given reason for removing the titles is that they have reached their limit on what 360 titles can be provided, as mentioned in the FAQ
With the rise and popularity of Xbox Game Pass, Games with Gold has become a bit obsolete, although the great value in Games with Gold was that once you had downloaded them, you owned that game outright, regardless of if you cancelled your subscription or not. Something that no other gaming subscription service has to offer.
Moving forward, in the FAQ section of the email sent out, it does mention that gamers will still receive Xbox One titles as part of the program, but with Game Pass Ultimate releasing so many great new games each month, I wonder, will anyone miss the Games with Gold program down the road?
Below is the contents of the provided email:
Hello (customer),
Thank you for being a loyal member. From 1 October 2022, the monthly games provided to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold members via Games with Gold will no longer include Xbox 360 titles.
This will not impact any Xbox 360 games that you downloaded before October 2022. Any Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles that you redeem via Games with Gold are yours to keep on your Xbox account, regardless of whether you continue your subscription. Furthermore, Games with Gold will continue to include Xbox One titles each month.
To learn more about this change and your membership options (including cancellation requests), see our FAQs. Thank you, Team Xbox
